This downtown flat is a modern take on traditional style. In addition to the many artisanal details, there were several engineering challenges that come with renovating inside old brick buildings in a downtown setting.
Structural steel had to be added in order to create the opening for the staircase. To help with noise of neighbors and downtown traffic, a sound attenuation matte was installed in the walls and the windows were done in steel and laminate glass.
The chevron floor is made from white oak that has been fumed, rather than stained to achieve a unique look.
Artisan molding is featured throughout, with a 16-in cove crown molding in the kitchen and a 9-piece ceiling design in the bedroom.
